French Concession
Wheely takes you through the Former French Concession — a leafy district where plane trees shade quiet lanes, Art Deco villas mix with local life, and the pace feels a world away from the skyscrapers nearby.
Our guides follow a route full of stories. We start in Fuxing Park, the green heart of the old French town, then weave through the artist lanes of Tianzifang. We pass Bugaoli, one of the city's best-preserved shikumen neighbourhoods, and finish at the iconic Wukang Building — the ship-shaped landmark at the end of Wukang Road. Along the way we cycle the most elegant tree-lined streets of the concession: Nanchang Road, Sinan Road, Jianguo Middle Road, Wukang Road and Changle Road — century-old architecture with stories on every corner.
This area has seen many names over the years, and our guides know how to read its layers: the colonial past, the revolutionary slogans once painted on walls, the families who've lived here for generations, and the new cafés moving in next door.
The entire tour you'll be cycling through the beautiful, leafy streets and you'll get a great idea of the life in Shanghai now and then.
